it's fall in mexico, and this is a beautiful thing. i didn't think i would get to experience fall, but we are definitely in the middle of it. the mornings are cool as the sun slowly makes it way up in the sky, and then the days are pleasant and warm with cold nights. i love love love this.

learned something very interesting recently - a popular worship song here is la niña de tus ojos. i have been wondering for awhile why child is feminine (la niña) and not masculine - surely men sing this song too, and it wouldn't make sense for them to sing 'i'm the girl of your eyes...'. angelica told me that la niña is the word for girl but also a part of the eye, and it roughly translates to 'i'm the apple of your eye.' ha! now i understand.

we learned how to bowl during gym today. that was funny but a great activity for all the kids - wheelchairs or not. in science we did the classic celery in water with food coloring experiment to understand what happens when we water plants, or how rain gets absorbed into plants.

josue and pilar who go to school in the afternoon are frustrating to work with sometimes. they both are always talking. always. the only problem is no one can understand them. with josue, once in awhile, you can catch a few words here or there. but with pilar it's just impossible. i can't imagine how frustrated they must be! to be always making sense to yourself but not having anyone else understand you. yikes. they both are so sweet though. maybe since they've always been like this, it doesn't bother them as much.

i took alex to the bistecito today. it was so fun - whenever we go for a walk, we just go to the tienda that's a 2 minute walk away. you can see it from gabriel house. the bistecito is a little less than 10 minutes away and it's a lot bigger. alex got to bring the hand-pedal bike inside and his eyes were so big; it was awesome. he was so careful and took forever to pick out his treat, and then we sat outside while he ate and watched all the cars go by on the main road. it was so fun to be far away, or kind of far away, and watch alex take in this other world that he doesn't see very often.
